Georgia Smith Obituary

  Georgia Mae (Wells) Smith, 92, of Springfield, Massachusetts, departed this life at her home on Friday, March 8, 2024. 

  Born in Dublin, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late George Wells and the late Dessie Mae (Guyton) Wells.  Georgia was a seventy-eight year resident of Springfield, where she was employed as a cafeteria worker in the Springfield Public Schools.  A member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, she had been active in the choir and Usher Board and had been selected as Woman of the Year many times.  She also was a fashion model for many years.

  Pre-deceased by two daughters, Jackie Smith and Jill Perkins, two brothers, Tom Wells and Tim Wells, and two sisters, Julia James and Helen Robinson, Georgia is survived by two sons, Kevin Smith (and Mary) of Chicopee, Massachusetts and Joseph Smith Jr. (and Laura) of Springfield;  four daughters, Elaine Hatche, Sherry Smith-Jackson (and Leon), and Joanne Smith, all of Springfield, and Denise Davis of Stone Mountain, Georgia;  a sister, Euness Owens of New Jersey;  twenty-one grandchildren;  forty-four great-grandchildren;  three great-great-grandchildren;  and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Funeral services will be held at Bethel A.M.E. Church, 27 Pendleton Avenue, Springfield, MA, at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024, with burial in Oak Grove Cemetery in Springfield.
